I had been looking around for some tough, hard wearing mountain boots for a month or so and realised that for what I wanted I needed to pay out approx. £150-£200, so I looked at the usual popular brands (Miendl, Scarpa, Brasher, Mammut etc.). However, each time I thought I'd find a pair that would suit, up popped some negative reviews (from a variety of different websites) which really put me off. I thought who better to look at than RM. I chose the Tatra GTX boot, couldn't find any negative reviews anywhere, ordered and arrived within 2-3 days. Have used them twice for the cross country/woodland/moorland walking in connection with work I do and have to say......superb, couldn't ask for a better boot, far and away better than others I have had and beats the competition hands down. Treated them prior to use and I went into streams up to and in some cases above ankle height, feet bone dry. Comfortable, warm.................definitely a big fan. Great support and ankle protection walking over very rough ground and through woodlands. Follow the Hanwag website advice about care, very informative and helpful. Now, downsides, there is only one I can think of.........these are not lightweight boots and if you have worn lightweights previously it may take a bit of getting use to the weight, but once you get over that hump, they are a great boot for hard cross country/mountain walking.
