Rogue RB-5 Trans Africa Boots

£149.00

Brand: Rogue
Weight: 1540 g         49 reviews
The Rogue RB5 Trans Africa Boot is essentially a premium, water-resistant version of their classic RB2 Trail Boot. Made in South Africa, the boot was specially developed for the Cape to Cairo walk in 1998 as a hard-working trail/walking boot, and has been worn exclusively by Wilderness Trail Guides in the Kruger National Park since 2003.

The Rogue RB5 Boot is made using superior African leathers, features a water-resistant outer, waterproof insole and is comfortable from the first use. Scratch marks and scars occur naturally on these hides; these marks should give your boots the unique rugged 'bushveld' look, indicative of the African outdoors!

When we started making footwear in 1976, we set out to make functional, hard-working and durable footwear, using superior leathers, soles and quality fittings. All our footwear is constructed using the tried-and-tested 'Stitchdown' method for comfort. Our shoe moulds are all in half-sizes for a more generous and spacious fit.

I have owned these boots for a few weeks now, and I am nothing but impressed with them. Out of the box they have a hand made and slightly quirky feel to them. They look very good, the leather is an almost oxblood colour, which I really like. When you first put them on, they are slightly stiff as a good pair of leather boots should be. After treating them with Rouge wax, it took about 5 miles to break the leather uppers in and then another 15 or so to get the sole to form to my feet. These boots have quickly become my go to boots to wear. I have worn them on pavements, fields, forest and even on the carpet as footwear for work. These boots look great with jeans, chinos, as well as combat trousers. A great general pair of boots if like me you are out and about dog walking, wild swimming, or just enjoying the great outdoors, or want something comfortable on your feet which is smart enough to wear with a blazer and shirt. They are becoming very comfortable in all conditions; the sole is well insulated from the ground and has good grip in all situations. It will be interesting to see how the leather develops in character and if I can keep wearing them for work as well as hacking about in the woods, if not I will just have to have two pairs – they are that good! My only negative which doesn’t warrant a deduction in stars for now is that the metal work seems a bit thin and cheap, there was some signs of corrosion out of the box. I am sure they will last a lifetime, but I think the metal work could be better. PS – Woodlore, can you get some nice red polish for these please! ??

Stylish, robust, comfortable, solid, dependable and well-made. Excellent, sturdy boots for the man about town who finds himself out in the bush.

I'm so happy with my purchase - the boots are amazingly comfortable and are breaking-in nicely. I wear them daily and apply leather nourishing cream regularly to the leather. The soles grip so well even in icy conditions. The leather uppers are getting so soft now and look fantastic. What’s left to say? The lace hooks and laces are well thought out and work smoothly. All in all, these are sturdy, comfortable boots which I thoroughly recommend. These boots are top value for money. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat.

I bought these boots with the knowledge that they were a basic boot without any padding. This meant that I had to wear them in for quite a while. Once worn in they are great. They are not waterproof but again I expected that, if I’d wanted a pair of gortex boots I’d have bought a pair. The main problem I had with these are the stitching at the heel which took a while to wear in. All in all a great boot as long as you are aware of their limitations.

Love the build of the boot. Although sold as a wide fit it's not wide enough for me. I have made aa attempt to stretch the width - hope it works! Potentially a good boot.

Really great quality boots. Initially quite stiff to wear out of the box but to be expected with good quality leather. A couple of short walks soon loosened them up, now they are really comfortable. Great materials and workmanship.

Very nice boots. I treat them with Nikwax conditioner for leather.

I purchased these boots in preparation for a hike in Northern Australian outback. I live in Northern Australia and had the boots delivered. Prior to ordering I chatted to one of the guys about the boots who answered my questions. Ordering was faultless and I received the boots pretty quickly despite the coronavirus mayhem everywhere. When I received the boots I was immediately impressed by the materials and workmanship that have gone into them. I think as well as a tough yet comfortable boot, they look pretty good too. I have only done a few short walks thus far, but I'm enjoying them and think they're going to be great boots. Other reviews are accurate in the sense that these boots are wide fitting. I think these are a winner. Great service as always from Woodlore.

One month review! very short break in time, one walk and basically perfect. They are spacious, I'm normally a UK 11/12 (wide feet), the size 10.5 fits great. They're breathable as well, I live in Indonesia and they're more then comfortable in the day to day heat and humidity. Only gripe would be a slight inconsistency with one part of the stitching, purely aesthetic.
