Recruitment

At Woodlore we recruit on an ongoing basis so if you are interested in working with us please feel free to read the information below. We invite you to contact us for an application form to complete and return to us.

At Woodlore Limited our field staff are asked to work on a self-employed part time basis during our UK course season from April to September. We usually hold our recruitment process for new assistants in Autumn/Winter for the following season. The recruitment process will start by you sending in an application form. We will then review all application forms when we are looking to recruit. If you are successful at this first stage you will be invited to join us for an assistant selection. At the selection you will be expected to, amongst other things, demonstrate your outdoor skills, show your level of fitness and endurance, mental attitude, interview well, and meet some of our existing team.

Once we have had a chance to meet you and spend time with you during our rigorous selection process we will make a decision about who we would like to invite to work with our team. You will be notified within a fortnight whether you are successful or not.

We are looking for people who have a good sense of humour, are trustworthy, have a high level of fitness, are punctual, helpful, loyal, committed, polite and have both the ability to use their own initiative as well as work well as part of a team.

It would be beneficial to your application if you are over 21 years of age, have had your driving licence for 3 years and have no more than 6 points on your licence. It would also contribute to your application if you have a current first aid at work certificate, are trained in basic food hygiene and have category B+E on your driving licence. You must have passed the Woodlore Fundamental Bushcraft course and we recommend you attend the Journeyman course prior to applying.

As an assistant you will be required to assist the course leader in all tasks including: keeping camp clean and tidy, helping to prepare lectures, shopping, general house keeping and making sure that our clients get the best experience possible. You will be expected to be part of our professional and dynamic team and give 100% effort at all times.

You will not be expected to give up your full-time employment or studying to become part of the Woodlore Team. We only invite people to join us on a self-employed part time basis to fit in with the rest of their lives. You could work for anything from one weekend a season to fifteen weeks a season. When working on the courses you will be staying on site with the clients and will be expected to be on call 24hrs a day. Despite what many people think, working as an assistant, whilst being an amazing opportunity, is difficult work. Yet if you are right for the position it is also massively rewarding and a key step to furthering your career at Woodlore.

If you would like to be considered for work at Woodlore Limited as an assistant please contact us for an application form. You can send a letter to Diana Taylor at Woodlore Limited, PO BOX 3, Etchingham, East Sussex, TN19 7ZE.

Progression

At Woodlore we normally recruit people at an assistant level. From this level you will have the chance to develop your skills and knowledge to move up our ladder over several years, taking part in our Aspirant Instructor and Fundamental Instructor exams developed and updated in house, to reach the level of Fundamental Instructor. Please have a look at our Woodlore Instructors page for more information about our current field team.
