Fjallraven Brenner Pro Trousers - Dark Olive

The Fjallraven Brenner Pro Trousers are an excellent waterproof trouser, designed and developed especially for hunting and forest activities. They are made from the superbly durable G-1000 Silent fabric, and feature a waterproof 'Hydratic' lining. As tried and tested by Ray in Northern Sweden, the Brenner Pro Trousers will keep you silent, dry and warm.

Fjällraven's G-1000® Silent material is a densely woven blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, making it windproof and extremely hardwearing. This outer layer is windproof and also water-resistant, thanks to an impregnation of Greenland Wax. The brushed 'Silent' version of this material, as used here for the Brenner Pro Trousers, is ideal for hunters and other groups that need durable, functional garments that are also quiet.

The lining of the Brenner Pro Trousers is made from Hydratic, a wind- and water-proof fabric that is also highly breathable. This lining makes them ideal for use in cold and/or wet conditions, while still allowing body vapour to escape, keeping you at a comfortable temperature.

The knees are pre-shaped for comfort, and are also reinforced with double layers of fabric for extra durability; openings allow the use of knee pads if required. The waist is cut slightly higher in the back, ensuring that the trousers sit comfortably even when crouching down.

Two generously-sized pockets on the legs provide storage for maps, a knife, a flashlight and other items needed close at hand. The right-hand pocket has an internal mesh sleeve for your phone, while on the right-hand leg, just above the pocket, there is a strap that can hold an axe. There are also two hand pockets and a rear pocket with hidden buttons. The hems can be adjusted by way of Velcro straps.

The Fjällraven company had its humble beginnings back in 1960, running from a small basement in the town of Örnsköldsvik. Equipped with little more than his mother's sewing machine, founder Åke Nordin began producing garments tough enough to withstand the long, demanding winters of Northern Sweden. Ever since, Fjällraven have continued with this quest, earning the reputation of a company reliable for making functional, hard-wearing outdoor clothing.

Excellent product. I purchased them prior to an autumn visit to Shetland and on one occasion I wore them for a couple of hours in near gale force winds and driving constant rain/water flung up from the sea. My legs stayed dry from the rain and bogs I walked through, although perspiration caused a little dampness probably due to being slightly too warm. I also put my wallet in a front pocket and this did get damp, admittedly this was during the atrocious conditions as described above, so I wasn't too disappointed by this. I usually rate outdoor gear on whether I can ignore the clothing and enjoying walking/bird watching, it was certainly the case with these. The weather was around 14C so it was quite mild and I look forward to using them and giving them a workout in colder weather. I read another review which, as far as I recall, stated that the waist dimensions were generous. I'd agree but this wasn't a problem. The leg length was good too and as I'm tall (+6ft) this is a plus point. Certainly a very good hardcore piece of clothing.

Superb product, just got back in from a good soaking whilst bird watching on my local estuary and these keep the wind and rain out. As other people have said these are a more generous fit than other Fjallraven trousers I have but I like that as for winter use thick long johns could be used. The pockets are also bigger that my other Fjallraven trousers which I prefer. All in all I would highly recommend them.

Received the trousers promptly. I have worn these several times and once in a real downpour. Superb performance. The trousers kept me dry and breathability was outstanding. Highly recommended.

These trousers are made to the very highest standards using the G1000 fabric to good use. They are a very relaxed fit so you may wish to get the smaller size if you are between sizes or use braces if you prefer as they have reinforced areas for brace clips to prevent damage to the fabric and slipping of the brace clasps. The large belt loops allow most belts to be used with these trousers though so you should be comfortable in them. The legs are long and have a Velcro strap at the bottom cuff to tighten around your leg and boots. Two large pockets on the legs are generously sized and the right leg also has a large loop for an axe or knife to be attached. One of the best features though is the raised waist belt at the back meaning that you can kneel down or bend over and remain well covered on your lower back. The fabric is meant to be silent but it does still make some noise due to the relaxed fit. The lining inside the legs is very comfortable but could possibly be cold on skin in the very coldest of conditions so you may need to wear underwear in this scenario. Buttons, stitching and pockets all seem to be quality and hard wearing. Using these in the field probably means you will be on your knees a lot and I can recommend investing in the Fjallraven knee pads which fit into the knee pockets in these trousers. The knee pads are pushed through a small slot on the outside of the trousers at the bottom of the knee. The knee pockets are very discreet, so much so that I could not figure out how to get the knee pads in to them at first. The knee pads cannot fall out of these pockets as the hole is very small and they do not move around so you can be confident when kneeling that you will kneel on the pad and not miss it! Overall an expensive but very worthwhile addition to your outdoor kit which should last for years if they are treated correctly.

I was looking for a winter trouser that could cope with the cold weather in Scotland. I was put onto these trousers by work colleagues and I am not disappointed by the product. The material is bomb proof and they keep your legs nice and dry even in some pretty bad weather. The only downside is that they can be too effective and your legs can get a little sweaty which can feel cold against the slick inner liner but this can be remedied by wearing some long johns. All in all I would highly recommend them as I reckon they will last for years. Thumbs up.

I bought these trousers to stay comfortable whilst out photographing wildlife. They fit well and are very comfortable, particularly with Fjallraven braces. They also work just as well for cold, windy walks along the beach.

Pleased with the quality of the trousers and have put them to test during a wet and windy landscape project - kept me warm and dry. The waist is generous, I ordered my usual size 32 and should have gone down a size. Woodlore service was fast but in their hurry sent me brown rather than dark olive but I'm happy with the colour.

Thank you for your review David. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with your new Fjallraven trousers and that they arrived with you quickly. We only stock the dark olive colour so I would assume that you have received the correct colour, but we agree, they do look quite brown. The fit of these trousers is generous, but we do recommend people order according to the sizing to ensure a good fit.

Very pleased with the Brenner trousers. Perfect fit and exceptionally well made. More than plenty pocket space and suits my woodland fungi and photography forays just fine. Many thanks.

Trousers are fairly light weight for winter lined trousers. Very warm so perhaps not suitable for working hard in milder conditions. Mine are a very generous fit so if hovering between two waist sizes you might find the smaller size suitable. Very comfortable, well made and ideal for my purposes which are hunting and teaching bushcraft. Only disadvantage for me is they are long legged - but then I have that problem with all trousers.
