S. Djarv Hantverk Crooked Knife Blade - Large

Brand: S Djarv Hantverk
Weight: 48 g         15 reviews
This Large Crooked Knife Blade, as used by Ray in his Northern Wilderness series, functions as a one-handed drawknife and gouge. In North-eastern America, this style of tool was much used by the first nations of that region to fashion everything from canoe paddles to snowshoes. Woodlore are pleased to now sell this resurrected knife blade without a handle, allowing you to finish the tool to your own liking.

Each Crooked Knife Blades has been professionally hand-forged from high carbon steel by Svante, the blacksmith behind Swedish company S. Djarv Hantverk. This tool is made to the same exceptionally high standards as their traditional Spoon Knives.

Each blade comes ready to be inserted into a handle of your own choosing, allowing you to produce a finished tool that is truly unique. The final design of your handle is obviously down to you, but we've included the photos shown here to give you an idea of how it can be done. This style of finished knife can also be seen in Ray's Bushcraft and Essential Bushcraft books.

I was excited to put a handle to this blade, in the process I got to know it better. The blade is relatively thick, which gives it a pleasing heft, with no give or bend. The tang is precisely uniform in thickness and width, which helped in fitting the tang in the handle so that it remains snug and secure.

Awesome crooked knife blade made from Very high quality steel. It came sharp enough to work with right out of the box. After carving my own handle (which I really liked doing), I lashed up the blade and it looks amazing. The blade profile is extremely versatile. I can do a variety of carving/woodwork tasks with this beauty. I have sharpened it a couple times and the steel takes a great edge. Made from quality material. I am so pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend it if you would like a cool wood working project. If carving your own handle isn't your thing but still want a fabulous crooked knife, I highly recommend the Ray Mears crooked knife. It is also very nice quality and comes complete with a handle. Bottom line. I love it. Shipping to the U.S was faster than expected and with no issues. Thank you woodlore!

When I received the blade I was a bit confused, as the picture shows the handle also. Reading the text brought me back to the ground. When I ordered the product I was under the impression, that I would get the handle too. Even the package note of the blade mentioned the handle, but the knife is beautiful. Still a 5 star product.

Just as described; it was bought as a present for my Dad and it is an awesome piece of kit. It was very sharp on delivery and very easy to make a handle for it.

Really glad I took the plunge and bought this great knife. I handled it using an ash branch with a natural thumb cant, fitted in the traditional way and finally whipped in place using nylon cord. Currently using it at work making wooden animals; an excellent tool. Also proving really handy for hollowing out a birch Kuksa I'm making. A must-have addition to a bushcraft tool kit.

In the words of Ray Mears: It's like having a whole workshop with you. Really an astoundingly versatile tool, made by a pair of skilled hands.

This is a great product. I can already tell the craftsmanship invested into this piece of steel, it has been curved and tempered / annealed for hardness and I know that when I do use it in the field that it will keep an edge. I'll be honest though, I was hoping for the handle to be included. I managed to make my own from a dowel with a one inch radius and some gold craft wire to bind it to the handle. I then tapered the handle to an ideal shape. I didn't want to use glue as I know that once I get into the bush, I'll find an even better handle. For now it's ready to go. Hope to use it this summer to make my first paddle.

Very well made, sharp blade. Performs perfectly! It looks great fitted to a native New Zealand hardwood heart matai handle.

There is no beating quality, superb steel made with love and experience giving a tool you know will give lots of service. Plus you have to make your own handle, now there's another learning curve. I love it.
