The Buffalo Systems DP Hood is designed to fit all Buffalo Shirts and Jackets by way of a secure Velcro strip. The hood provides extra protection against the elements, and is the perfect accessory for their classic Special 6 Shirt or Belay Jacket. Made in the same colours and materials as the Special 6 Shirt and Belay Jacket, the DP Hood is a must-have for owners of Buffalo jackets.

Constructed of a Pertex shell with an Aquatherm pile lining, the DP Hood will not only protect you from wind, rain and snow, but it will also keep your head insulated. Windproof in gales of up to 65 kph, it will also resist rainfall up to 12.7 mm per hour.

The two-position adjuster strap allows the snorkel to be drawn around the face in adverse conditions, while the detachable face-mask can be positioned when required to enclose the mouth and nose, protecting the user from spindrift. If anticipating severe windy conditions, the face mask can be sewn into position at one side.

It’s the first hood for any of my Buffalo jackets and it make's my Mountain Jacket more weather proof but is a less warm option to wear than my Parka. It’ll also match my Special 6 so making that another all weather/gales option rather than loosing a Tilley hat! Price was decent and delivery super fast. Took me a few attempts to line up the Velcro and have to admit I had to ditch the face mask section straight from the off, felt like someone had their hand over my mouth and nose and felt really claustrophobic! The hood itself in wearing was great in the gales and horizontal rain it was watertight and totally windproof just don't wear wool based gloves when your doing up/undoing the Velcro cinch tab. It’s a shame in a way with the premium price of Buffalo kit they don’t actually throw a hood in as an optional extra and just load the purchase price by £20. The hood could be made perfect with a wire brim for gales but my glasses remained rain free so it did work as it is. If you’ve got a Buffalo Shirt or jacket treat yourselves to a hood and increase that smugness you feel in the elements when others with other kit are not so comfortable!

I’ve not used the Buffalo hood yet but having tried it on it seems very warm. I was advised to purchase one along with the Buffalo Special 6 and I don’t think it will not disappoint.

Fastens onto the jacket well. Warm to wear and plenty of face cover, even a chin cover for the especially cold windy hikes!

Buffalo kit has been a bit of a revelation to me after a couple of decades of sweaty membrane waterproofs and damp Paramo kit. Worn as it should be, snug fit and next to the skin, it's so effective in cold, damp conditions it's hard to understand why it's not more popular. I have added this hood to replace a mismatched older one I was using. Warm and finishes off the mountain shirt, but in high winds the visor is soft and can fold down to cover eyes when head down into the wind / snow. Buffalo could improve this by offering a flexi 'wired' version to keep the peak solid enough to stay in shape under harsh conditions but bendy enough to be easily packable.
