Buffalo Systems Special 6 Trousers - Olive Green

  We'll made, comfortable and functional. I've worn a Buffalo mountain shirt for a while, but this is the first time I've tried the Special 6 trousers. They seem every bit as good, they are very warm and feel bomb proof. I've only tried them so far on a short, cold, wet and windy walk, but they performed well and I'm expecting them to perform equally well on a winter backpacking trip in a few week's time. I'm finding that I increasingly turn to Buffalo in preference to other clothing systems for anything in the winter where the temperatures are in single or sub zero Celsius figures.

  These are so warm after a cold water swim just pull on and you are immediately warm. Even if not entirely dry they dry and warm your body.

  Buffalo DP if worn next to the skin offers the best functional clothing for cold wet weather. Rain or perspiration will be wicked away from the body whilst wearing the clothing leaving you dry. Even when soaked the pile will keep you warm until the wicking and drying out of the garment can occur. So for any long use on a day after day basis (such as extended camping or long distance walks) a buffalo system garment works better than any Gore-Tex, Paramo or Ventile option. You never need to change out soaked thermal under layers and are not left with difficulties trying to dry them. Risk of hypothermia is far less and hot/cold extremes are removed. Once tried and used properly against the skin it becomes the standard you will use to judge all other 'outfit' wet weather gear by.

  Cycled 16 miles/25K to work during a recent three day cold snap; 0F/-18C, negligible wind, no humidity. These kept me warm as toast. Not just tolerably warm but, hey, I could do this all day warm. At the other end of the comfort range I have worn these at 45F/7C with wind and rain with the zippers cracked open. These work as advertised.

  I bought these trousers to go with my Special 6 top. I can thoroughly recommend them from my use so far, which is several short walks in -5 to +5C, with moderate speed winds. I have not tried them in the rain yet as it hasn't rained. I wore both items next to the skin and was comfortable the whole time, and crucially not wet from sweat. My thermostat is usually set to run fairly hot despite being in good shape, so it was very pleasant to walk around in these and, when necessary, adjust the side zip vents to ventilate without stopping to change layers.

  My wife and I have just returned from 4 days in Iceland, where we wore the Buffalo System Active Shirts and Buffalo Systems Special 6 trousers, my wifes had to be bought from Cotswolds because you do not have coloured tops and she did not fancy the slate colour. We wore the tops and Special 6 trousers in all conditions including -3oC and wind speeds in excess of 50 mph, they performed excellently and will (infact did) recommend the trousers and tops to several people while we were in Iceland. As it says in the leaflets you need to wear only underwear underneath and nothing else and we were comfortable at all times. We went from outside walking in negative temperatures and high wind, to inside the car and the tops and trousers performed excellently. We were at no time too hot nor did we feel the cold or wind chill on anything except our faces. We would both not hesitate to recommend the Buffalo system to anybody that is involved in any hill walking type of outdoor activity.

  I love the Buffalo products and these are no different. Very comfortable and warm. The zips on the legs are great if you get too hot. It's Buffalo; what more can I say?
