The Savotta Jääkäri L 40 - 60 litre Backpack, previously known as the Rajajääkäri, is a revamped version of the Border Patrol, which has been updated into a modern and very durable rucksack. The support structure has not been changed, but the bag and carrying system have undergone drastic modification.
The actual bag of the rucksack has been designed to be slim but still spacious and is closed with a waterproof roll top that enables over packing, which seamlessly adjusts the height of the Jääkäri L between 60 cm and 80 cm. The roll top opening is locked with a quick-release fastener of 25 mm, which is covered with a flap which hugs the top of the backpack and is secured with adjustable straps from both sides. This 'floating' flap also features a zippered pocket for valuables inside (26 x 30 cm).
The bag contains a divider that can be closed with a string to divide the bag in to top and bottom sections. The top section of the bag includes a Velcro closed pocket against the back (28 x 50 cm) that holds the aluminium support frame. This pocket can also be used for a hydration bladder or supplies to be kept separately. The pocket also fits a small laptop, but it requires protection when paired with the support frame. Immediately under the roll top closure of the bag, there is a protected exit for a hydration bladder hose, cable or antenna. The contents of the bottom section of the bag are quickly accessible via a separate zip.
With the four compression straps on the sides of the Jääkäri L, the bag can be tightened compactly. Each is equipped with quick-release fasteners of 25 mm and their ample length enables their use for attaching items on the sides of the rucksack. In addition to the compression straps there are long attachment straps, which enable the tying of supplies securely on the front of the rucksack, bottom of the rucksack and behind the side compression straps.
The wide, state-of-the-art ergonomic shoulder straps and robust hip belt support and distribute the load evenly. The shoulder straps are adjusted with ladder buckles made of Delrin, which have excellent resistance against strain, shock and even the freezing cold. The shoulder straps also have a separate adjustment, for when you want to transfer more of the burden to the hips and rest your shoulders, useful in situations where you want to pull the rucksack close to your body for running or rushing.
The hip belt is very sturdy and the padding pillow fits perfectly against the small of your back. The hip belt’s solid buckle keeps the belt fastened firmly but can also be undone quickly. The belt can be tightened and loosened with the help of 40 mm ladder buckles on both sides. The hip belt also features additional adjustments on both sides that enable pulling the bag closer to the hips so that the rucksack cannot sway from side to side. The hip belt can be taken off completely and it can also be attached a step higher or lower making the rucksack adjustable according to the anatomy of the person carrying it. When detached, this belt equipped with full-length MOLLE webbing serves as an equipment belt to which any MOLLE compatible additional pockets and supplies can be attached on its entire length.
