The Karrimor SF Sabre 45 Rucksack is a superb outdoor pack designed for heavy use in demanding conditions. Described as a ‘must have’ in military circles, the Sabre 45 is a reliable and durable load carriage system which has been tried-and-tested by Ray Mears for well over a decade.

The Sabre 45 features a single main compartment with a capacity of 45 litres. Additional storage space can be added by attaching the Karrimor Side Pockets or other PLCE-compatible accessories.

This rucksack utilises a removable F-Format frame, which can be shaped to fit the wearers back. The S-shaped shoulder harness conforms to the user's torso which, along with the hip belt and sternum strap, helps you to maintain your balance while on the move.

A supremely durable 1000 Denier Nylon is used for the vast majority of the pack, offering long-lasting strength. This is then given a silicone/PU elastomer coating for improved tear strength, and finally a DWR finish for better water repellency.

Sewn ventilation channels, a Coolmesh-covered hip belt and lumbar and scapula pads help to wick away perspiration maintaining comfort, thereby increasing your effectiveness over prolonged periods of exertion.

Out of the box it can be a bit squeaky and shiny (I wish there was a way to get a weathered look). I used it on the Colchester Paras 10 and it felt good, with no rubbing, however lots of squeaking which I am sure will go away after use. It feels durable, but could benefit from a few more internal pockets however for the price I like it, so thumbs up from me.

I bought this as a general purpose backpack thats big enough for a long weekend camping trip. I'm fed up of buying fancy packs from high street shops that have the latest fabrics or high end labels, fluorescent badges, bells and whistles. The Sabre promises tough, sturdy fabrics, simple design and some useful ergonomics. It doesn't disappoint. The side pockets (separate purchase) make it look a bit clunky when attached but they're functional. The main bag can be zipped up (as it arrives) to give you a small day bag, or extended to full size to fit tent/sleeping bag thermal mat, stove etc. all inside. It's tough, stays dry enough even in sleet without the liners and it's comfortable to carry fully loaded. The only potential weaknesses comparing to other brands might be that it's relatively heavy unpacked, there are a lot of clips I haven't yet fully understood, and it could do with some smaller side pocket options (they're big), but I would recommend this if you a serious backpack. Everything is solid and well-built and you can be confident your kit is secure. I haven't used the dry bag liner properly but I'd recommend getting one – they make an excellent pillow with your clothes safe inside. The hydration system is also very good – especially for the price. It can be used as a separate bag in itself, but fits in the backpack snugly. The drinking hose is really tough – it's almost like hydraulic cable so there are no worries about kinks or damage. The mouth piece is the first I've used that seals properly and it doesn't taste as strongly of plastic as some of the camel back type ones I have. I'm really happy with this purchase and the service was great too.

Strong material. Very well made and well thought out. Comfortable on mountain treks. Weatherproof and versatile especially with the side pockets which I bought at the same time.

Brilliant bit of kit. Not the lightest bag on the market but it's sturdy and tough which were my main criteria. Very comfortable and takes the weight of the pack well on the hips. I like that everything adjusts to suit how you want it to be. Very pleased with my purchase.

Solid bag, tough material and well made. Took it for a night's bivvy on Bodmin Moor, 16 miles in total. I'm 68 and nothing seems to fit me very well so I was a bit concerned when the waist belt was on/slightly above my belly button as it should sit lower. I shouldn't have been concerned at all. This bag is comfortable, and I'm not used to carrying a pack. I'll definitley be getting the side pockets to keep water, food, map etc. rather than diving into the main pocket all the time. Excellent purchase overall, will last me a long time! Thanks to the team for excellent service as well, quick dispatch and a good price.

Solid bag. Have both the Sabre 35 and 45 and can say that they are both very well made. For 3-4 days camping, this can take my overspill of equipment.

Comfortable and great for a weekend in the hills for a spot of wild camping. As always, Woodlore delivery was brilliant. Thanks guys

I have long thought about buying one of these. In the interim, I have tried all sorts of other, similarly sized packs and have not been entirely satisfied or pleased with the results. With the Sabre 45 available at a very competitive price recently, I could no longer put off the purchase. The question for me is this: why did I wait for so long to buy one of these packs? Comfortable, functional, well-made and great to use, I am now a happy bushcrafter! A great bargain, backed up by peerless service from Woodlore has made the Sabre 45 fully deserving of its five star rating.

I bought this rucksack because I have started to use my SF Sabre 35 on a daily basis and wanted a sack to use on a hike etc. I also own the SF Sabre 75 with PLCE side pockets, and the Sabre 45 fits in really nicely between the two. The great thing with the 45 is that it's not much bigger that the 35 in physical size; I find it easier to carry on a day out than the 35. If I need the extra space I can use the PLCE pouches as well but, so far, I've not needed them. The 45 also has a small mesh pocket in the underside of the lid, making it ideal to store your phone, keys etc. In the main lid pocket I keep my knife, torch, head torch, fire steel and first aid kit. The pack, although water repellent, still managed to let some things get damp during a recent rainstorm and I now keep everything in a dry bag. I had to source the Karrimor dry bags for this rucksack from elsewhere as I was surprised to see that Woodlore doesn't stock them. Being quite large in body, I find this rucksack fits me really well; all of the straps are fully adjustable and the waist strap had some nice padding which sits just above my hips. I was disappointed to find that, although you can use the Karrimor Hydro pack on the PLCE, this rucksack doesn't have a straw tidy on the arm strap like my Sabre 35 or 75. I've had to take the one off of my Sabre 35. Overall, I'm really happy with the sack; it's more useful that the 35 and would make a great bag for a couple of days in the field while using light kit.

Great bag; really versatile in that you can alter its capacity for short or long trips.
