The Savotta Side Pocket 12L is an extra large pouch with rudimentary internal organisation and external compression strap loops that fits the Savotta Jääkäri XL rucksack.

It is really nothing too fancy, but just what you need from a side pouch on your backpack. The vertical webbing on the front keeps the compression straps of your backpack neatly in place over the pouch, allowing them to properly compress the pouch as well. These can also be used as attachment points for bungee cords or carabiners.

This useful pouch benefits from a zip closure, which is covered for added water repellency and protection from abrasion and dirt. The bottom and bottom halves of the sides are lined with 210D polyamide for added abrasion resistance and a grommet offers drainage of any water that may seep in.

A 25 mm webbing loop and D-ring on the top of the rear interior wall allow you to secure small and important items, the flat rear compartment offers simple organisation for smaller things that you want to keep safe.

The rear features the standard PALS attachment webbing system with tuck tabs. The middlemost horizontal webbing rows were eliminated as they didn’t really do anything besides add weight. Savotta aren’t an ultralight gear manufacturer, but even they don’t like unnecessary weight. The two vertical attachment straps leave an approx. 13 cm wide gap between them, this allows you to carry items such as an axe or fishing poles stuffed down behind the pouch. Optimal attachment requires a width of five channels and a height of eight (min. seven) rows of PALS webbing. Your packs side compression straps will, when tightened down, eliminate any movement of the pouch and its contents. Of the Savotta rucksacks, it is recommend the 12L side pouch only be used on the Jääkäri XL. Although not recommended you can attach it to smaller packs with an absolute minimum of six rows of PALS webbing on the sides, this is done by attaching the pouch one step higher and accepting that the bottom will be a bit floppy.

With a capacity of twelve litres this is a very large side pouch, the PALS attachment is five channels wide. Best used on large and tall backpacks of 70-100+ litres. There is room inside for a tarp, hammock, underquilt and accessories, or a few days worth of rations and snacks or a lightweight puffy jacket, trousers and rainwear.

Very well built product which is basically just a bag without any pockets or straps. can easily fit my hammock, ultralight tarp, tree straps and cordage inside. Fits very nicely on my Karrimor SF Predator 30 so will expand this relatively small pack in to an over night pack, with the addition of 2 either side I'm sure I could use this setup for further nights.
