The Brynje Arctic Zip Polo is a unique insulating base-layer designed for 4-season use. The garment consists of two important layers: a fine merino wool outer, and an innovative polypropylene mesh lining. Devised by a team with years of winter expedition experience between them, this system of synthetic mesh underneath a soft wool layer provides a stronger garment than standard woollen clothing, with better moisture-wicking ability.

While it may sound like an odd combination, this mesh-lined system has been tested and proven over decades' of expeditions in some of the harshest environments. In fact, Brynje clothing was worn by the adventurers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, on their legendary expedition to scale Mount Everest in 1953. The merino wool outer provides an extremely soft, warm and comfortable feel, while the mesh inner helps to trap pockets of air giving superb insulation.

The Zip Polo features a full-length turtleneck which can be rolled up or down depending on the conditions, along with a quarter-length zip. The long sleeves feature thumb-holes for extra comfort and warmth.

This garment has been designed for year-round use in cold conditions, including extended winter expeditions. The Arctic Zip Polo range of clothing has become Brynje's best seller, thanks to the enhanced functionality of wool matched with synthetic mesh. The Zip Polo is exclusive to Woodlore within the UK.

Fantastic base layer from Brynje. Very well made and comfortable. I really like the roll over collar that bears the company insignia. Superb thermal protection and feels light and non constrictive. This would be excellent underneath a windproof layer to minimise heat loss. Large thumb holes keep the garment extended fully and cover any potential cold spots on the wrists, ideal when wearing gloves and a long sleeve over layer. Also long enough to roll over if thumb hole aren't your thing. Wicks well and dries fast. This garment will accompany me wherever I go in the future, if I anticipate the temperature taking a tumble.

Snug fit but not too constrictive - the mesh feels good with the merino and makes the item pretty versatile in different temperatures. I have felt equally comfortable indoors and out and have managed fine with a simple windstopper gilet. Combine this with a Gore-Tex or soft-shell mid-layer and you are comfortable in anything!

This Mid layer although Merino + synthetic mesh liner is considerably thicker than normally associated Merino layers. I have 38 chest and purchased size 38, this is a perfect fit though feels it could stretch considerably more if required. For non summer use which I purchased it for I am more than happy, and living in the north of the UK this will take in most of the year. For summer use were I use Merino layers it would be too warm although well vented with the zip. A slight downside is using a non merino inner mesh to transfer the moisture, which it does effectively, does allow it to suffer from the normal wiff of non merino materials. Overall I was more than pleased and combined with the Woodlore next day delivery even to an off-shore island what more could you ask for!
