Woodlore First Aid Refresher

The Booster

Renew your First Aid at Work certificate and brush up on some of the lifesaving skills learned on our other medical courses by joining our fun and informative three day course.

First aid is certainly one of the most important subjects, not only for outdoor recreation but also for daily life. The skills of first aid are perishable and the codes of practice are updated and changed on a regular basis; this course provides the latest training and ensures you are fully up to date, confident in your skills and prepared to help in an emergency.

Further Information

As with all skills, whether fire lighting, navigation or carving, practice makes perfect. First aid is certainly no different. It is advised that an annual refresher course is carried out in order to keep lifesaving skills up to date but sometimes that is not always possible. A First Aid at Work certificate should be renewed every 3 years and that is just one benefit to doing this course. Your employer may even contribute towards the course as it would benefit them also.

The Woodlore First Aid Refresher course is aimed at clients who have successfully completed either our Woodlore Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness Emergency Medic Level 3 courses, or both! It will cover everything necessary to get a new First Aid at Work certificate if it is completed within 3 months prior to your certificate expiring or up to 28 days after expiry but most importantly it will keep you confident when dealing with medical emergencies and competent in your skills when doing so.

The following subjects will be refreshed during this course:

  • Defibrillator Training
  • Epi pens
  • Primary and Secondary surveys
  • Resuscitation including adults and babies
  • Wound management
  • Updates in current practices

As always, with all of our medical courses this is very scenario based and those who are eligible to attend know how interesting they can be! It is guaranteed that even if you carried out some medical training within the last few weeks, you will leave this course knowing much more. Without regular updates any skills start to fade and this course will refresh you on skills where someone's life really could depend on them.

This course starts at 17:30 on day 1 and will finish at 16:00 on day 4.

Catering

This course is self-catering, so please bring enough food for the duration of the course and a stove to cook it on. Many clients have found in the past, bringing a cool box is useful to keep all of your food inside.

We provide a kettle, tea, coffee, squash and biscuits in a brew box at the main camp fire of the course, under a large parachute. We also have fresh drinking water and a fruit bowl available.

Course Site

The Woodlore First Aid Refresher course will take place at an expedition style camp in East Sussex, close to Uckfield. The camp is situated in beautiful private woodland with no public access with lots of wildlife including deer, owls, badgers, fox and butterflies. We do not have shower/toilet blocks at our sites, therefore all aspects of the course will have a fantastic wilderness feel, using screened camp shower and a screened latrine in the woods.

We also have a car park at the course site where your car will be kept during the course (if you bring one).

Other Details

Joining instructions will be sent to participants of the course 9 weeks before it is due to start, giving details of where to meet, at what time, and what to bring with you.
