The Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty MG Knife is a powerful tool for bushcrafters, hunters and outdoorsmen alike. As with all Mora knives, it offers excellent build quality and ergonomics at a surprisingly low price.

With an almost identical build to that of the popular Mora Companion MG Knife, this Heavy Duty model benefits from a considerably thicker blade, measuring 3.2 mm in width. Made from carbon steel, this improvement brings the knife in line with more expensive models on the market, and results in a more robust knife that will withstand harder use.

This Heavy Duty version of the Companion Knife is an excellent knife to use whilst learning basic bushcraft techniques (being sturdy enough to withstand harsh treatment), while still being of a high enough quality to use once you are more proficient in knife work. Woodlore students attending our Fundamental Bushcraft courses will be issued with this knife, while it is also widely used by Woodlore's Instructors and Assistants.

The Companion Heavy Duty Knife features a half tang, moulded into an extra large ergonomic handle with a soft, high-friction grip; both the handle and sheath have been made in the distinctive Mora military green colour-scheme. The classic scandi grind carbon steel blade allows for easy sharpening, while the wider bevel angle of 27° gives extra strength for tasks such as batoning.

The sheath is made from tough plastic and will attach comfortably to most belt widths. It includes Mora's trusty thumb-push feature, which makes it easier to draw the knife with one hand. The internal Knife Retaining System inside the sheath has also been improved, resulting in a better fit between knife and sheath, making for added safety.

Overall, the Companion Heavy Duty MG Knife is a fantastically strong and well-designed tool for all-round outdoor and Bushcraft use, at a great price.

Very happy with this purchase and excellent service from Woodlore. The Mora Knife, Heavy Duty, has a thicker blade to withstand more punishing use and is a nice budget introduction into knife craft; something to practice with before getting a more expensive option or as I have done, making your own knife. I love Mora knifes they are well made carbon steel blades with a nice comfortable handle. The sheath is okay it does the job and is sturdy yet it will invite you to buy a leather sheath or make one yourself. One thing to be aware of is that although the blade is sharp, it will need honing to get it field sharp. Also the spine is rounded I found it won't work well as a Ferro Rod striker unless you flatten the spine first to get a nice 90 degree edge; which I did using coarse sand paper. There are some good videos on You Tube taking you through the whole process. All in all a very versatile knife at a great price, highly recommend it as a must have item for Bushcraft whether you are beginning or more experienced.

Initially the case and handle felt cheap and plasticky, although this is a budget knife so that is not surprising. However, having used it for some time they are solid, rugged and well made. The blade was prone to rust spots, but that's a reflection of the carbon steel it is made of; a thin coat of oil has resolved it. Overall though the knife is fantastic, the edge is razor sharp and holds its edge well. The handle is ergonomic, very easy to get a firm grip on, and solid. The holster is robust and spacious, allowing easy insertion and removal of the blade. Thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent value, very usable knife. Perfect shaped handle and blade and enough weight. Much better quality than you would expect for the price. Haven't sharpened yet, but steel looks pretty good.

Decent beginners' knife (which I am). Seems to carve well, and be of good quality. For me, it's very good value.

Fantastic value and great quality. Arrived very quickly. Knife fits nicely in the hand and is super sharp and beautifully balanced. Not overly keen on the plasticy sheath but it does the job.

The Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty is incredibly good value. I have used it quite a bit for carving and it's easy to keep reasonably sharp with a DC4 or similar stone. I highly rate this bushcraft knife, it might not be the very best but is a good choice if starting out. It's a good all-rounder and well worth having.

Will be appreciated by no nonsense outdoors enthusiasts. Solid, razor sharp, feels weighty and great value for the money. Will take a beating if battening. The carbon steel needs to be kept oiled especially if not regularly used, or kept as a back-up. In conclusion does what it says on the tin, great starter knife but don’t expect to be passing it down in your will like Woodlore’s top end knives. Richard L
