The Paramo Halcon Jacket is a windproof, waterproof and breathable coat for outdoor enthusiasts, especially those who want lots of practical carrying space. In designing the Halcon Jacket, Paramo had the assistance of a number of professional wildlife cameramen and photographers, including Joe Cornish and John Aitchison - people who have taken their fair share of the brunt of British weather. As such, it is a brilliant outer layer for budding photographers, filmers and bird watchers, and can be seen on professional lensmen across the country.

Paramo Directional Clothing Systems was set up by the founder and owner of Nikwax, Nick Brown. Focusing on wearability, recovery and long life, they have created a range of clothing that is comfortable, durable, highly functional and - most importantly - weatherproof! The Halcon Jacket is a fantastic example of this.

The use of unique Nikwax Analogy fabric, combined with the Halcon's ventilation options, ensures you can maintain your comfort without taking layers on and off during your adventures. Additionally, as the performance of Analogy fabric isn't hindered by the outside temperature or humidity level, the Halcon Jacket can be used in freezing cold environments such as the Arctic. It also features a fleece-lined collar, wire-framed hood and handwarming pockets for additional comfort.

As zip-front jackets go, the Halcon is the Swiss Army knife. There are pockets for everything, including zippable hand-warmer pockets. The neck-warming collar and hood are superb and, as with all Paramo garments, the fit and finish of the fabric is impeccable. Being wind and waterproof while still highly breathable make it perfect for active use in our weather, while the generous cut gives ample space for an insulating layer while waiting for the light to change on a winter day. A fantastic all-rounder. - Joe Cornish, Landscape Photographer

I needed to purchase a garment that would resist all severe weather conditions, without breaking the bank, and have at least 15 years of wear. When the Paramo arrived (next day from ordering!) the quality and battleship build jumped out at me. I reckon to have as much knowledge as Ray Mears on clothing and because of this I know the Halcon will be my trusted friend for a couple of decades! Regards to Woodlore; they know that in supplying top notch gear like this it means that one will not require similar for years to come. When buying what may appear expensive clothing, try to envisage how much longer garments will last compared to cheaper, not-so-well-made gear and work out an average annual cost. What I paid for the Paramo Halcon over let's say 15 years works out at about £18 per year, about 35p per week! Brilliant value.

Well I've had the jacket for 3 weeks now and worn it most days up here in the North East of Scotland. It replaces my Paramo jacket that I bought in 2003, so a trusted brand. Today the new Halcon got a good workout; 4 hours up in the hills of Glenlivet in the Cairngorms National Park. The ambient temperature was -2, and with the windchill down to around -4. Light to moderate snow falling all the time. The jacket performed very well; the neck zips up high to cover your chin and prevents wind/rain getting in. I put the hood up but put it away again as I was too warm! Excellent fit with the long dropped back, plenty of pockets for head torches, GPS, packed food etc. and the hand warmer pockets are low down which are more comfortable and convenient. Best of all the price I paid was £66.00 less than most retailers either online or in store. Great product at the right price.

I've only had this jacket for three weeks. However, it has been very wet up here where I am, including floods due to the high amount of rainfall. So, a good test of the jacket. It has been completely waterproof, which I am so happy about! I had some concerns about Paramo from various reviews online, but my jacket has proved itself repeatedly. I live on a smallholding, and walk regularly and I've not had any leakage issues in the daily use it has had so far. Heavier than a lightweight technical jacket, and more bulky, but for all other uses it is very good. The hand warmer pockets will get wet if I use them whilst it's raining, but only because the rain runs down my arms into the pocket. Not much can be done about that for any jacket. Vents work well, as it can be a warm jacket when walking uphill. I am particularly pleased with the hood, and I normally dislike jacket hoods: it stays on in all winds from any direction, isn't noisy, and doesn't restrict my vision too much. A brilliant jacket, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

My coat arrived quickly and in good condition. I decided to try a Paramo coat because I am finding that Goretex does not stand the test of time and loses its ability to keep me dry after a only a few months. This coat fits well, it is warm and so far it is waterproof - I just hope it stays that way.

Fantastic jacket. I am a big fan of Paramo, so to be able to purchase it with a good offer is brilliant. I must say I am very impressed with Woodlore too; good company.

I bought this on the advice of a friend who is a Paramo addict. Having had multiple GoreTex jackets in the past the first thing I noticed was how quiet this jacket is. I usually overheat when walking but that has not been a problem with all the ventilation available and I don't need to keep taking the jacket off. I haven't needed a mid-layer either, which is an added bonus. It is by far the most comfortable jacket I have ever worn and stood up to Scottish weather without any problems. The hood is exceptionally well designed and the number and size of pockets make it ideal for the amount of kit I feel I must carry. The only reservation I have is that (I'm told) if you sit in the wet it will force through (unlike Gore Tex), but I haven't experienced that as yet. I will certainly be buying more Paramo clothing.

A lot of thought has gone into this great jacket! After years of wearing rustly crisp-packet Goretex shell jackets I discovered Paramo and have never looked back. I still don't quite know why but it stays dry in every condition, is easily maintained and means I frequently wear just a base-layer beneath. This jacket is incredibly well designed with drawstrings at hem and waist, ventilation everywhere and pockets for everything. As such it's ideally suited to anyone who needs quick access to lots of kit like maps, monocular, phones, lenses, compass, and all those things that won't go in trousers. The hood is great in moving with the head so great vision and options to really close it down in bad weather. Long jacket so it keeps your bum warm too, and enough room inside for me (40) to wear base layer plus a fleece if I need to, unlike some Paramo jackets which are more fitted. Incredibly functional and I can see why wildlife watchers, bushcraft, and outdoor practitioners love it over normal waterproof shells. Initially Paramo stuff feels heavy but it means you wear one less layer beneath it and so one less to carry elsewhere. Because ventilation options are so many you tend to wear it all day too. Love it.
