The real-deal canteen! I've been fortunate to get a couple of these from Ray Mears - passed onto friends and colleagues - and they are as tough as anything. They're perhaps not the most stylish water bottles out there, but they keep water cool and crisp, and with a good clean now and then can hold up to a ton of abuse! I used these bottles way back in the day and having just been presented with a rescue Malinois thought I'd get myself one to take out on walks. I've been using any old one litre water bottle, like Nalgene, but they are usually see-through. If you're treating water with chlorine, the bottle needs to be opaque to avoid UV rays from nullifying the chlorine's effects. That's why military bottles are the way they are. I learned all this on the Fundamental Bushcraft course and decided that it was time to invest. I'm glad I did. Thank you Woodlore team!

The Osprey NATO Water Bottle (NATO stock number 8465-99-973-6665 ) does exactly what it sets out to do without leaking, and the wide neck opening facilitates the inside of the bottle drying out after post-use washing. A great lightweight water bottle, and matched with Woodlore's excellent service there's nothing to dislike and everything to praise.

The water bottle is great. I have one complaint, the water bottle is too tight for the cup I purchased for it. Pulling it out of the cup is vary difficult.

I just bought the brilliant Crusader Cup so I couldn't leave without buying an Osprey water bottle too. It'd be like having a rod without a reel, they work so well together and such a wise use of space.

Excellent quality, sturdy bottle, genuine Osprey seemingly manufactured this current year. It was the cheapest price I could find and even arrived next day, packed well. What more could you want?

Wow. Solidly built and holds a decent amount of water. Sensibly sized to fit in my backpack without being obtrusive and now in regular use on my local trips out. Definitely don't get that plasticky taste or smell which I've experienced with other plastic bottles in the past. This one's the real deal. Genuine 58 pattern water bottle. Not a cheap nock off that will leak. I like the fact you can just buy the bottle without the plastic cup. The bottle is very stiff fitting in a crusader cup, this is easily remedied by filling with hot water to soften the plastic then pushing the bottle into the cup. Empty out the hot water and fill with cold water while the bottle is still inside the cup to set the shape and the bottle will then slide in and out crusader cup with ease.

Good quality new NATO 50 pattern water bottle, light weight, but strong and does not leak as some versions do. Have used this in the field and very pleased, would recommend. Also arrived quickly after purchase.

Good bottle but as advertised it is a tight fit for the Crusader cup, it is harder to slip the bottle out one handed without looking. On the flip side it doesn't rattle around in the mug like my old bottles do so there is less noise.

A must have if you use a Crusader cup. Very tough. Doesn't leak. Wide opening so you can fill quickly or add ice cubes.

Bottle is nice and robust. I wasn't sure this would be the case as I've seen some that are pretty flimsy, this should stand up well. Nests nicely with the Crusader Cup. I was extremely pleased with how quickly the package arrived in Canada from the UK. Great addition to my kit.

A classic piece of kit, incredibly tough and a good price.

This is an original bottle from Osprey, made to MOD issue spec, don't be lured into buying cheaper but less durable and sometimes smaller alternatives!

Leaves little taste and smell in water compared to other plastic products. Holds a good amount, is light. Black to let no light in, strong seal and cap. Works perfectly with the BCB system. Only negative is the cap swings around to smoothly so when pouring the cap keeps getting in the way.

Robust bottle. Only has faint smell of plastic like most any new plastic product has. Wide mouth ( compared to U.S issue bottle ) makes filling easier. Excellent service from the Woodlore team.

Great water bottle, fits nicely into the side pouch on my Leaf Cutter rucksack. No leaks and lightweight to boot.

The original British Army water bottle. Been issued since the late fifties. Lightweight and tough as an old dms. I know it's old habits but I much prefer two of these and a military 3ltr in my pack rather than others that can crack, heavy metal type containers or the trend for flimsy smart type plastic bottles.

solid and with a seal under the cap, this NATO water bottle should last for years. Nice large 1 litre capacity is more than most drinking bottles of 700 to 900 ml. I need to find a suitable molle mount holder for my next trip.

Great bottle. Tough, simple and built to last. I wouldn't hang it from the cap strap as this might break as the bottle is pretty heavy when full. Only criticism is it smells quite strongly of plastic so I would give it a good wash out before using.

Fairly standard water bottle but fit for purpose, in other words it doesn't leak like poor imitations. Cheers Callum for the advice.

Nice size with a robust design and a solid price. Apart from the rubber seal falling out and the plastic cap connector breaking as I used a carabiner to clip the bottle to myself and after a while it snapped, so go get a bottle carrier for it. Have had the same ones since 2015 and they're a solid member of the family.
