The Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe is a full-sized, two-handed axe from Gransfors. Each axe head comes individually stamped with the smith's initials, while the handle features the embossed Ray Mears Bushcraft logo.

This axe is of excellent quality, hand-forged and made using traditional Swedish methods. With a 64 cm helve, an experienced axe user will have sufficient strength to use it one-handed.

Ray reserves this axe for use almost exclusively in boreal forests in winter where the demands of limbing snow-covered branches and chopping into the tight grain of slow-growing timber present tough work. This is a beautiful axe to use, with a pleasing weight and swing.

For those of you with an interest in axe-forging or blacksmithing, we recommend taking a look at the Swedish Blacksmithing Book.

Protect your axe head from rust and corrosion by applying a small amount of Camellia Oil to the blade.

Solid value on this item... very good bushcraft axe in classic GB style. The GB Small forest is a classic and great axe, this Scandi is its larger brother for bigger jobs. If someone could only have one axe, this would probably be the pick. Good service and price from Ray Mears on the purchase... only took about a week to ship to USA!

A beautiful, extremely well made axe. Light enough to use comfortably and long enough to generate plenty of force and leverage. Sleek and wickedly sharp. Everything you would expect from a Gransfors Bruks axe head and haft - the Ray Mears Bushcraft logo is a lovely touch and looks great on the haft. This axe will find a happy home among my others in the GB range and will no doubt be an extremely useful and valued tool for as long as I am able to physically use it. It will also be strong and reliable tool to pass on, when the time comes.

Great axe but prefer the Small Forest Axe for more control and ease of use personally, although I can see advantages over the Small Forest Axe depending on situation.

This is a superb tool and, to my mind, offers far greater flexibility than the Small Forest Axe. Felling with it is a pleasure as the blade geometry and thickness, along with the weight of the head, allows easy cutting. Although not really designed for splitting, it performs this task readily with the greater weight and handle length making the more stubborn logs split with greater ease. I have also used it for some minor carving tasks: producing feather sticks works well but the handle length made roughing out work for spoons a little clumsy. I am really pleased to be able to get my hands on one of these axes at last; I am sure that it will be an heirloom that is handed down once I've finished with it. My only gripe is the rather cheap and nasty masks that Gransfors include - a tool of this quality deserves better, so I will break out the leather to fashion something more fitting for it. As ever, the service from Woodlore was exemplary.

Beautiful axe with perfect balance, heft and scary sharp blade. I’ve used it a bit and really enjoy it. It now lives in my truck and will go with me on the road and trail.

This axe is fantastic, I own 16 different axes of various shapes and sizes. But, this is the one my kids fight over. It is big enough to fell a tree but small enough to dress a fish. (Both of which I've done) the edge retention is amazing and not hard to hone. The only thing I don't like about it is the sheath, one rivet seems to be placed a little inside of where it should be which allows it to bump against the blade. Outside of that everything is fantastic, the grain orientation is ideal, very well balanced and indexes like a knife. Woodlore was great, being in the US I was concerned about shipping but everything was handled quickly and orderly, very nice people. I appreciate the savings and doing business with them.

Brilliant axe. I own the Small Forest Axe aswell and this is great for jobs when you need a bit more oomph, with this and the Small Forest you can just about do any job you would need an axe for whether it is felling, limbing or splitting I would say they're jack of all trades, master of none.
