The Ray Mears Silky Fox Bigboy Outback Saw Case has been designed specifically to carry your Bigboy Outback Saw along with your Small Forest Axe or Wilderness Axe or similar.
A sturdy leather cup takes the hinge end of the saw in the main case and is kept in place by its own internal leather flap, while an open ended sleeve retains the handle of your axe with the head secured by the outer flap of the case. The case is carried with the flap end downwards. Two options of closure thong allow for the flap to be positioned for use with the saw alone if desired. A paracord shoulder strap with a leather shoulder guard ensures comfortable carrying of the fully loaded case and can be adjusted to the perfect length for you. We think this modern take on the much loved Ray Mears Folding Bucksaw Case is a particularly effective way to house and carry this fantastic wood cutting combo.
Hand-made from start to finish, this is a durable, high-quality product which is sure to prove a constant companion for those spending time in the woods. The leather end cup is constructed with a welt to withstand wear from the hinge of the folded saw and is hand stitched with a braided polyester thread to match the dark brown burnished edges. Canvas parts are reinforced to take the full weight of the contents and a solid brass Chicago screw secures a leather tab with brass dee ring to take the shoulder strap. As with many of our leather goods, the case comes embossed with the exclusive Ray Mears 'Snowshoe' logo on the outer flap.
This case has been designed specifically to effectively house and carry the Silky Fox Bigboy Outback Saw and whilst it may act as a case for similar folding saws please note that some features may not be so effective in use. The axe sleeve is specifically designed to work efficiently with the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, Gransfors Bruks Ray Mears Wilderness Axe and Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe. Axes larger than these may not fit into the sleeve and axes with smaller heads than this may not be securely retained.
The leather parts of this case will benefit from the occasional coating of a greasy leather feed such as Norsol Leather Balm. The canvas can be sponge cleaned with plain water if desired and allowed to dry thoroughly at room temperature.
All of our leather and canvas goods are hand-made by Woodlore's resident leather worker Becky Brewster, a craftswoman with decades of experience. The leather used in this product is vegetable tanned with full, natural grain and hand-dyed in house to the unique Woodlore rich brown colour.
