The Ray Mears Leather Casstrom D-Shaped Carabiner Belt Dangler is ideal for quick attachment and release of items you want to carry on your belt.

We love Casstrom's unique D-shaped carabiner and are delighted that they have been kind enough to allow us to put it with our own leather work to bring the best of two worlds together. The carabiner is finished in antique brass and the supporting leather belt loop is in Woodlore's Rich Brown colour and sports the Ray Mears 'Snowshoe' logo. The carabiner is manufactured in 8 mm wide aluminium and the belt loop is produced from a sturdy but flexible strap with bevelled and hand burnished edges in dark brown and finished with a traditional 'crease' line. Hand stitching in a braided polyester thread is coloured to match the leather edges.

The D shape of the carabiner makes it ideal for items that require a straight edged support, such as knife sheaths. The internal width of the straight section is 34 mm, so is suitable for items with a strap up to about that width; this includes all the leather knife sheaths in the current Ray Mears and Woodlore range. The curved side of the carabiner allows it to tilt within the leather dangler which is trimmed out to facilitate this. This aids in free movement of suspended items and allows them to be smoothly tipped out of the way when the user is seated. With a little practice the gate opening in the carabiner can be operated with one hand to remove it and the suspended item from the leather dangler which remains threaded onto your belt ready for reattachment.

With a breaking strain exceeding 400 kg the carabiner itself is tough enough to be used for more than just accessories, however please note that it is not suitable for climbing. The carabiner will not rust and requires no specific care but the leather strap will benefit from the occasional application of a greasy leather food such as Norsol Leather Balm. It will keep the leather looking its best and prolong the life of the dangler.

All of our leather and canvas goods are hand-made by Woodlore's resident leather worker Becky Brewster, a craftswoman with decades of experience. The leather used in this product is vegetable tanned with full, natural grain and hand-dyed in house to the unique Woodlore rich brown colour.
