The Snugpak Enhanced Patrol Poncho is a lightweight, waterproof smock design poncho. When an unexpected downpour hits, the Enhanced Patrol Poncho fits comfortably over your head to provide 100% waterproof cover for you and your backpack.

At less than 400 g in weight, it’s a must-have piece of kit for any adventurer. With its generously cut smock design, it can even be used as an emergency bivvi if you need to spend an unexpected night under the stars!

The waterproofing on the poncho is a PU coating so will not need any attention to keep it waterproof, but the outer surface is treated with DWR (durable water repellent) which causes the water to bead up and roll off. Once deactivated, it can lead to the fabric wetting out and looking like it is failing but this is just cosmetic. The DWR can be reapplied. There is no hard and fast rule as to how often you would need to do this, just when you notice water stops beading up on the garment.

Lightweight and very waterproof. The issue is the lack of breathability so I guess there's a trade-off. I bought it for walking in northern Spain in the autumn but it was still too warm and the condensation quickly built up inside the poncho. I reverted to my gore-tex jacket that I had thankfully also taken. I'm hoping the poncho will be better suited to Spring/Autumn use in the UK as it wasn't suitable for what I originally bought it for.
