  I bought three of these books (two were gifts) for our upcoming Bush Chef course this September. This book has exceeded my expectations. There’s so many simple recipes to follow. There are lots of beautifully taken photos of food to inspire you. Two of my many passions in life are cooking for myself and others and spending time outdoors.   This book is fantastic, a well-rounded guide that will inspire those both new and old in the world of cooking outdoors. Very clearly and well written, there is not an ounce of confusion in the recipes and even the more complex are achievable by anyone. A real delight and one I will enjoy sharing with others.

  “Wilderness Chef” by Ray Mears, Where do I begin? WOW! This useful volume covers just about everything one needs to know to cook healthy and enjoyable meals in the outdoors, from the day hiker looking for some lunch ideas to the multi-day trekker tired of the same old dehydrated or freeze dried rations, its primary focus though is on fresh cooked meals in the bundu, showing that with a few simple ingredients taken along and a few locally sourced supplementary items foraged along the way, that you can eat well and enjoy the experience too. Highly recommend this one for anyone who spends time out in the bush..

  Got this for my daughter who is a scout, to enhance her skills in backwoods cooking. Got a lot more than we expected. Very informative and creative. This book really covers all areas of cooking outdoors. Some great tips on seasoning that would make any meal tasty. It shows how to utilise what's around you to cook and also gives information on camp ovens. Baking is covered too with simple bread recipes to apple pie. You could honestly bring your family outdoors for the Sunday roast!! Really looking forward to trying these recipes out. Would highly recommend this book for those who love dining outdoors and getting back to nature!

  What a great inspirational book. Well presented by the author with lots of lovely photos and easy recipes. Something I will definitely be trying out over the campfire. A book for those who don't want to just cook beans, sausages and bacon.

  Another fantastic book! Bushcraft is about learning new things every time and this book will help you upgrade the way you cook in the wilderness, setting camp, what ustensils to use and how to improve the flavor of what you eat, plus a lot of recipes to try. As Ray says on his cuisine related shows, while enjoying the food he processed:   fantastic!

  Absolutely fabulous book, very well structured and perfect for both newer and us more experienced outdoor folks, I've already made a full roast dinner cooked in a Dutch oven, and the Beer bread is fabulous and so simple on the camp fire. This book is going to be very well used, it's becoming a family favourite already!

  I have been camp cooking for years and am enjoying the book tremendously. The approach on some of the cooking and recipes are very similar of what I have done over the years. But there are greater amounts that I have not tried and looking forward to experiencing them with the next generation of family members. Excellent book and fun read!!!

  Superb book full of recipes adapted for outdoor cooking with lots of tips on how to use natural materials to aid cooking. A great reference book written in Ray’s usual style, a fine addition to any outdoor persons library.
