THIS WAS A SLIGHTLY TRICKIER PURCHASE FOR ME AS THIS SHEATH WAS ABOUT 6MM BIGGER THAN THE CUTTING EDGE OF MY OLDER ESTWING AXE. I THOUGHT IT WORTH THE GAMBLE ON IT BEING LOOSE & THOUGHT I COULD USE CORD TO FIX IT ON? HOWEVER I FOUND A 100% BETTER SOLUTION. AN OLD WOODEN ROCKET FIREWORK STICK. I CUT IT SLIGHTLY SHORTER THAN THE LOWER LENGTH TO HIDE IT & GLUED IT ON THREE SIDES WITH LEATHER GLUE TIGHT AT THE BOTTOM & CLAMPED IT OVERNIGHT. NEXT DAY I PAINTED THE VISIBLE TOP & END WITH BLACK PAINT AS THE BRIGHT WOOD WAS TOO OBVIOUS. THEN FABSIL GOLD & AUSTRALIAN LEATHER CREAM TO SOFTEN & WATERPROOF & AGE THE LEATHER. THAT MINOR ADJUSTMENT HAS RESULTED IN A PERFECT FIT & I AM VERY PLEASED AS NOW ALL THREE OLD ESTWING AXES LOOK A ONE MILLION £ WITH NEW HANDLES & TOP CLASS LEATHER SHEATHS. WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TRANSFORMATION. I CAN NOW TAKE A PRIDE IN THOSE OLD BATTERED ESTWING AXES. MY ONLY RESERVATION IS THAT PERHAPS THE WOOD I USED MAY BE TOO SOFT & GET BROKEN BY THE VERY SHARP AXE HEAD? BUT IT WAS JUST A BETA TEST & I CAN ALWAYS USE A HARDER WOOD OR OTHER MATERIAL(LEATHER STRIP?) IF I NEED TO LATER AS IT WAS NOT A TIME & LABOUR INTENSIVE TWEAK. I AM SO PLEASED I TOOK THE GAMBLE. THIS SHEATH FITS PERFECTLY NOW WITH NO MOVEMENT. SO IF YOU HAVE OTHER AXES THAT ARE 'SIMILAR' SIZES TO RAYS SHEATHS, YOU CANNOT MAKE THEM SMALLER BUT I PROVED IT'S POSSIBLE TO SHRINK THE GAP & TIGHTEN THEM UP. I CANNOT FAULT IT. I LEAVE THE LEATHER IN A WARM PLACE TO LET THE CREAM SINK IN OR I HAVE USED A HEAT GUN FROM A DISTANCE QUICKLY PASSING OVER. IF YOU ARE UNSURE USE A HAIRDRYER AS IT SAFER & LESS AGGRESSIVE. I FOUND IT HAS REALLY IMPROVED THE WATER RESISTANCE OF MY LEATHER ITEMS & HELPS BOILED LINESEED OIL SOAK INTO AXE HANDLES WHEN DRESSING AFTER SCRAPING WITH A SHARP BLADE TO REMOVE SPLINTERS ETC. LOOK AFTER YOUR GEAR & IT WILL LOOK AFTER YOU!
