The Ray Mears Leather Small Forest Axe Sheath has been developed specifically for use with the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe.

This hard-wearing sheath slides onto the axe head from underneath and a heavy leather welt holds it in position safely. The flap fastens over the top with a neat brass Sam Browne stud holding the axe securely in its sheath.

With no strap to stretch or get tangled up, this design fits the axe easily and is compact enough to pop in your pocket when not in use.

Hand-made in-house by a craftswoman with over three decades of experience, the leather is vegetable tanned with the full, natural grain, and hand-dyed to the unique Woodlore colour. The edges are a burnished dark brown with a traditional crease line. Careful selection of materials and accuracy of construction negate the need for metal rivets; stitching is by hand using a rot-proof braided and waxed polyester thread. The Ray Mears 'Snowshoe' logo is discreetly embossed on the lower corner at the front.

I BOUGHT TWO OF THESE LOVELY QUALITY CASES TO FIT TWO OLD ESTWING AXES I BOUGHT ON EBAY THAT NEEDED ME TO REINSTATE THEIR DESTROYED LEATHER HANDLES. I USED AN ANOLOGUE CALIPER TO MEASURE THE CUTTING EDGE ACCURATELY & THE FIT WAS PERFECT WHEN THEY ARRIVED - WHICH WAS VERY LUCKY. I HATE THOSE CHEAPO 'leather' SHEATHS THAT COME WITH MANY AXES THESE DAYS. NOT ONLY ARE THEY NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE; THEY LOOK CRAP TOO. WHEN I SEE THEM IT MAKES ME FEEL POOR. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT BUYING A HANDMADE QUALITY LEATHER SHEATH THAT GIVES CONFIDENCE THAT IT WILL PERFOM WELL & LOOKS REALLY SMART. PAINTED WITH FABSIL GOLD TO WATERPROOF & FED WITH AUSTRALIAN LEATHER CREAM. NOT ONLY DOES IT DARKEN BUT IT AGES THE APPEARANCE. I ALWAYS THINK IT IS WORTH PAYING EXTRA FOR QUALITY ITEMS. CHEAP NEVER LASTS OR WORKS WELL. SADLY THESE DAYS IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO PAY EXTRA FOR QUALITY GEAR AS THE CHOICES CAN BE LIMITED BY THIS MODERN OBSESSION TO MAKE THINGS CHEAPER & CHEAPER. I PREFER TO BUY MADE IN BRITAIN IF I CAN TO SUPPORT LOCAL PEOPLE. IT'S IRONIC THAT CORPORATIONS FLY STUFF THAT IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE THOUSANDS OF MILES TO ONLY BREAK WITHIN WEEKS, IF YOUR LUCKY. WITH THIS SHEATH I AM 100% CONFIDENT I CAN CHUCK THE AXE INTO MY BACKPACK & THE SHEATH WILL STAY ON & NOTHING WILL GET CUT OR DAMAGED! NOW THATS PEACE OF MIND.

10X better than the factory sheath. I’ve had the factory sheath come unsnapped in my backpack. That could have turned ugly real quick. Once you secure this one it’s not coming undone until your ready. It rests in any pocket very comfortably while your working so you don’t have to worry about losing it.
