Woodlore Field Staff Announcements
With the Woodlore course season well and truly under way, we have a few announcements to make regarding our Outdoor Team:
Firstly, we are very pleased to announce that both Sarah Day and Ian Lawson have recently passed their Woodlore Aspirant Instructor tests. They are now looking forward to leading some of the Junior Fundamental Bushcraft, Camp Craft, Introduction to Bushcraft and Fundamental Bushcraft courses this year. The Woodlore Team wishes them all the best with their new responsibilities.
Our next announcement is a very special one:
Field Staff members James Bath and Dan Hume were recently awarded their Woodlore Fundamental Instructor knives. This puts them amongst only a handful of Bushcraft instructors who have received this honour. The beautiful antler-handled knives are hand-made by Alan Wood - the maker of the Woodlore Knife - and the only way to get one is to become a Woodlore instructor.
Ray Mears and Paul Kirtley have put together the most rigorous testing process for those who wish to become a Woodlore instructor, and James and Dan are the first to complete this process. Receiving their instructor’s knife is not the end of their journey, but just the beginning, and the rest of the Woodlore Team wish them every success for the future.

I had the pleasure of being taught by James both on the Fundamental and journeyman courses. He is a superb instructor with a great depth of knowledge.
Just watch out for his sense of humour, it is a touch cruel!
James will understand about things you can catch in Lochs!!
Congratulations and well done.
Take care,
Graham

Hi Richard. Yes, it’s only the maple-handled Alan Wood knife that Woodlore sells; these antler-handled ones are only given to Woodlore instructors.

Well done to you all! I’ve never forgotten Dan’s impressive demonstration of his hand-drill technique during my Fundamental Course in 2007 and it was great meeting James in Sweden last year. I look forward to seeing you again soon, all the best – Dave.

Congratulations to all four. Is this antler knife the same as the one Ray uses, or is that one even more special? Can they be bought on the website or are only the wooden handle ones for sale to the civvies?
