How to use a Fire Stick

How to use a Firestick (click to zoom) The Fire Stick can be used with the metal striker which comes attached to it, or with the back of your knife.

Collect a small pile of tinder and place the end of your fire steel at the edge of it. Using the last 2cm of the steel, scrape hard using your striker or the back of your knife to shave sparks, pulling the steel against the striker or blade. Sparks falling onto your tinder will ignite it.

You can use many different types of tinder to do this; in particular we would recommend Birch bark peelings, feather sticks of Willow, Spruce, and Cedar, all plant downs, dry grasses, shredded bark, tinder fungi or The Tinderstick.
