WoolBivy Bags
A bivy bag, bivouac, bivi, or bivy sack is a lightweight alternative to traditional tent systems. It is essentially a waterproof fabric shell designed to fit over your sleeping bag. It acts as a barrier against the wind and rain and provides extra insulation. Good bivy bags consist of Gore-Tex and are breathable, allowing humidity to pass and so reducing moisture inside for the occupant.A bivy bag is included on some Woodlore kit lists because there will be some nights during the course where you sleep in a shelter or under a hootchie instead of your tent and you will need the added protection that a bivy bag provides.
For Woodlore courses a standard British Army surplus bivy bag will be fine. Please check out your nearest Army Surplus shop for stock. Please note though, the bivy bag should be a breathable Gore-Tex bag.
