Arid areas are one of the easiest environments to dress for. First and foremost your clothing should be comfortable and loose-fitting, allowing air to circulate and keep you cool. It is useful to look for clothing made from tightly woven material, to help protect against biting insects. Inevitably your first thought will be to take shorts and T-shirts, but it is equally as important to pack long trousers and long-sleeved shirts, furthering your protection from insect bites as well as the sun.
Many of your items will be straight-forward choices, such as a sun hat and lightweight walking boots. However, there are less obvious pieces of kit that will make your journey much more enjoyable - a cotton bandanna for example can be wetted and placed around the neck to keep you cool during the day, while a warm down jacket will ease the chill when the temperature drops in the evenings around camp.
