Chris Boyton - Traditional Bowmaker
Chris Boyton - Traditional Bowmaker
With his wealth of knowledge, Chris was the perfect choice when it came to working closely with Ray in the development of the exclusive Woodlore Folding Buck Saw.Chris began studying Traditional Bowyery in the 1970’s and has made a life long study of the art of Bowmaking.
All of this interest was enhanced by the meeting of Richard Galoway, the late Scottish Artist and Bow designer, who had quite an impact on Chris's understanding of Bow design and construction. Some of Galloway’s techniques are only just being re-discovered by Bowmakers today, as if they are new ideas.
Yet all of this work would have been pointless without some sharing of its fruits, and passing this experience onto others.
So with the fullness of time Chris took up the art as a profession in 1993, and is more than happy to share this knowledge with others in the hope that the tradition will carry on and flourish.
For many years Chris has been actively involved with Ray and the Woodlore team sharing his professional knowledge both out in the field and in the workshop.
Out in the field Chris has accompanied the Woodlore Team on their Primitive Technology course and Ray on the ever popular Walk in the Woods. Whilst back in his workshop the production of one of Ray's favourite pieces of kit the Folding Buck Saw is resurrected.
As previously mentioned, Chris is passionate about his work and the sharing of his knowledge. He offers one-to-one 2 day Bowmaking courses, so if you've every fancied making a Longbow then why not book yourself onto one of Chris's courses!
