General comments

I recently had a repair completed to my Hestra Falt Glove through your shop. The repair arrived today direct from Hestra in Sweden, and I would just like to say that the customer service from both yourselves and Hestra has been legendary. You should hire yourselves out as expensive consultants to other retailers and show them "the light". Very refreshing; many thanks to both you and Hestra.

I would have rated the numerous items of kit that I have bought from you over the years but as I do not have the codes anymore it seems easier to do it this way, from the woodlore knife made by Alan Wood, and another made by Wilkinson sword, stainless mug, two sleep systems and all the rest of the items I will have to say that I have not bought one piece of kit that did not live up to the good quality that I now expect from Ray's gear.

My young Grandson now comes on rough camping trips with me and that same kit is still being used and abused, and still working fine, whatever country we end up in. Thank you for many a happy evening around the campfire for which without decent kit would not have been so enjoyable.

Just a quick note to say thanks for your help with the Golden Eagle Sleeping Bags. We tried them out and we definitely made the right decision - though the pack-size is quite large, it's worth the compromise to get such a warm, comfy and well thought-out bag, especially for longer trips. Didn't realise before that there are also pockets inside the bag, which I'm amazed no other bag design I've come across seems to do.

I’m sending this email to thank you for the very prompt delivery of your Grandpa’s Wonder Pine Tar Soap.

I contacted your store just before the end of business on Thursday, as I had read this soap works wonders for a skin irritation called PUPPPS (a condition that women get towards the end of pregnancy, which drives you insane with itching and has no cure until the baby is born). I had read online from other sufferers that the only relief they found, after being prescribed numerous creams and lotions from their GP's, was Grandpa's soap.

After phoning your store in a desperate need on Thursday it has arrived at my door this Saturday morning, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your prompt delivery. The rumours were indeed true and the soap did the job - it stopped the itching instantly and all I had to do every time I started itching again was use this soap.

I just hope other women find out about it sooner than I did.

I would like to say a big thank you to you all for helping me complete the Keswick to Barrow race this year. I feel I must explain:

Each year over two thousand people enter a charity race from the town of Keswick and travel 40 miles through the Lake District before finishing in the town of Barrow. This year's event experienced the worst weather in its 43 year history. High head-on winds were accompanied by frequent heavy down pours, and even hail stones hitting us at around 35 mph.

My thanks though must go to you; slightly over a year ago I purchased the Swazi/Ray Mears Tahr Anorak. This performed beyond any of my expectations, keeping everything the Gods could throw at me out. This resulted in a personal best time of 8 hours 30 mins.

Woodlore Knives

Dear Ray Mears,

Having received my knife last week I felt I had to write to say how absolutely delighted I am with it.

In the first instance it was extremely well packaged, so arrived in perfect condition.

Once I had removed the bubble wrap, and seeing the quality of the outside of the presentation box, I knew that I had made a good decision to make the purchase. This feeling continued when I removed the lid and saw the linen-lined interior and, of course, the sheathed knife located perfectly within the box.

The sheath just exuded a quality that I hadn't quite expected, and that coupled with the first appearance of the rich honey and ale coloured wood of the knife's handle was fantastic.

When I finally took the knife from its sheath with a reassuringly firm pull, I just couldn't quite believe how the combination of form and function had been so beautifully embodied. It is truly a work of art that's dying to be used!

Hello Woodlore,

Just a quick e-mail to let you know that I am in awe of my new Anniversary Knife, delivered to me today. I could not get home from work quick enough.

The quality of the knife, presentation box and certificate are truly superb and the write up on the reverse of the certificate is a nice thing to have.

I promise I will look after it, cherish it and, maybe one day soon, be brave enough to use it. Or maybe I will just lock it away, take it out every now and again, look at it, polish it and then put it away again.

It's going to be so hard knowing what course of action is best, part of me says use it that's what it was made for and the other half wants to keep it pristine.

Anyway, my wife bought me the Alan Wood knife from you last Christmas as a surprise present, and I use this on days out into the woods, so nothing lost really.

Enough of the rambling, I just wanted to say a big thank you to Ray and Woodlore for this wonderful knife.
