The Fjällraven company had its humble beginnings back in 1960, running from a small basement in the town of Örnsköldsvik. Equipped with little more than his mother's sewing machine, founder Åke Nordin began producing garments tough enough to withstand the long, demanding winters of Northern Sweden. Ever since, Fjällraven have continued with this quest, earning the reputation of a company reliable for making functional, hard-wearing outdoor clothing.

The Ruaha Shorts are lightweight, sturdy travel shorts made from Fjallraven's own G-1000 Lite material; this lightweight fabric weighs less and is cooler than the original G-1000 fabric, which makes it ideal to wear in the summer or on travel adventures and long trips which require clothing that can withstand tough wear. The fabric is woven with ripstop threads, which provide high durability despite the fabric's relative low weight. Just like original G-1000, the Lite version is still windproof, hard-wearing, and water-resistant thanks to a Greenland Wax impregnation; the fabric also helps to wick moisture away from the body.

Ruaha Shorts feature roomy leg pockets with stud fastener flaps, ergonomically placed on the side of the leg and with diagonal openings for better access. Two standard hand pockets and zippered back pockets that are hidden under a flap round out these high-spec shorts. The Fjällraven badge is sewn onto the right leg pocket.
