I purchased to have the complete small and big set of S. Djarv Hantverk Spoon Knives to help with more carving projects. Used to make kuksa so far. I have owned the small set of spoon knives for 10 years and I am very pleased with blade retention. So hopefully the new large spoon knives hold a edge as well as my old small set. Beautiful product and very functional

Very happy with this knife. The curve is perfect for spoons, bowls and kuksas. It's far easier to sharpen than other spoon knives and holds an edge really well even when used with the harder woods like Elm and Hawthorn.

If you're in the market for a top notch bit of steel for your tool roll then this is definitely worth saving up for.

I added this for removing more material than the standard size but it's also good for shallower cuts and a little easier to sharpen - if you know this toolmaker then you won't be surprised by the quality and finish - the look is rustic but it gives a nice grip and feel in the hand

I can highly recommend S. Djärv spoon knives, this is the big version (there is also the standard and small sizes available), having used them for carving for some years. The blade edge is sharp on one side only, safer and easier to apply pressure in my opinion, and is therefore available in both left and right-handed versions. The edge comes razor sharp. The handle is made from Swedish elm, which is 110mm long and shaped to fit comfortably in the hand, it's also ribbed for additional grip. As a size guide, the standard version is good for all applications, but excels at desert spoon size carving, the small is good for more intricate work and the big knife is great for larger spoons, utensils, kuksas or bowls. Woodlore's service was excellent with fast next day delivery and can attest their after sales care is also of a high standard.

Perfect little spoon knife. We used these on the Fundamental course and I've wanted one ever since. It carves rings around my other brand spoon knife. Unlike some, I appreciate the rough finish as it assures a proper and secure grip .

This is a very solid, compact hook knife. It hogs out chips from bowls in no time at all. The bevel on it is very defined making it easy to sharpen. Excellent tool, I used it straight from the packet, very comfortable in the hand.

A great hand made carving spoon knife that holds an edge well. The blade is thick enough to keep it from flexing and narrow enough to keep the chattering to a minimum. With enough stropping, the blade will develop a nice curved cutting surface, allowing you enter and exit the cut with a minimum of effort. You will need to spend a little time to remove some deeper grind marks to smooth out the cutting edge surfaces, but the results are worth the time and you only need to do it once.

Great knife, I have the right handed version too. Works well as a set to carve in different directions.

Overall, the knife is an excellent size for me and the handle fits my normal sized man's hand nicely. The knife's steel and handle quality is excellent. My reason for 4 stars ( 4.5 stars not an option), not 5 is that half of the back side of the knife is not smooth and requires about 30-60 minutes to bring it to silky smoothness to be able to glide it easily in a spoon's bowl when cutting. This requires honing the back with progressive wet/dry sandpaper to 1200 grit and then stropping on leather with honing compound. Not hard to do and necessary to bring this high quality tool to perform at its maximum potential. The cutting edge also needs sharpening, for as it comes from SD, it is not as sharp as it can be with some sharpening work that any spoon carver should be capable of doing easily. This additional sharpening and tuning is not unusual on some high end tools like this SD, in order that the user can set it up to exactly her/his liking.
Excellent hook carving tool.

This is my first hook knife, well made and good grip. Scoops out effortlessly. Very sharp. Hope to get a lot of use out of it.

I am new to wood carving and making spoons, I brought the left and right handed spoon knifes (with the leather sheaths) to aid me in making spoons/bowls. Firstly they are beautifully made and wickedly sharp, as a beginner wood carver, I am going through plasters at a fantastic rate :) lovely knives, I am glad I brought the sheaths to, to protect me and them when not in use. I feel these knives will really enhance my spoon making. Fast delivery and I am very happy with the customer service.

Holds the edge far longer than my Mora. It feels really good in the hand and you get no hot spots whatsoever.

I bought this knife to get started on some spoon carving and realised my first self-carved spoon.
This knife is very sharp and holds very well in your hand.

What a great tool, beautifully hand made and comfortable. Strong and holds an edge very well. Two things I dislike, firstly the handle has ridges. These ridges are uncomfortable, but easy to sand down. Secondly, the bevel was badly finished so I used a 240 grit to form a single clean bevel.

A very nice knife, very comfortable to use and perfect for carving spoons.

Lovely little spoon knife; one of the nicest I've tried. Has a rough and ready handmade charm, and is a very tactile tool. Sits really nicely in the hand, and is just a joy to use. The blade is top quality, holds an edge for ages even in seasoned wood, and is really easy to sharpen. The tang extends really far into the elm handle (which is made by Svante's wife, Elsa) so you can get some real torque through the wood with no worries. Really impressed with this, so much so I've ordered a Svante Djarv carving knife to go with it. Top marks too to the Woodlore team who dealt with my order really quickly and with great communication. My only wish would be for a wider range of woodcarving brands so I can always shop here!

I don't feel that I am qualified to review the qualities of this knife as I'm only just exploring the craft of the woods-person, but what I can say with authority is the service from the Woodlore team is exceptional. I've had three orders from them now, plus correspondence offering advice, and I am always highly impressed with the perfect, seamless and friendly service. As for the knife, well it was comfortable in the hand, very sharp and a pleasure to use. Not to mention it is a thing of aesthetic beauty.

Once I got used to this spoon knife its great for spoons, also for my hobby of bird carvings. Nice for concave and convex.
