The Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter is an ideal product for those needing large volumes of water filtered quickly without the hassle of pumping it by hand. All you need to do is fill the bag from the water source of your choice, hang it up and let gravity do the work for you. It has a high water flow rate of around 5L per hour, making it ideal for groups and families. It features a cleanable, AntiClog Hiker Pro Microfilter Cartridge, which removes bacteria, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium to EPA Standards.
In simple terms, the Katadyn Camp Filter consists of a siphon filter attached to the inside of a 10-litre Ortlieb water bag. When you arrive at your camp, fill the water bag up and hang it from a nearby tree. After about 20 minutes, while you've been setting up your camp, around 1.5 litres of water is already available. Unlike disposable filters, the Katadyn ceramic filter can be cleaned several times - even in the field - giving it a longer life.
Filtering capabilities:
The Katadyn Base Camp Filter removes bacteria, protozoa and other disease-causing agents from clear or turbid water, using the principle that these micro-organisms cannot pass through the pores of the filter because of their size. The Base Camp model employs a ceramic filter cartridge, the pore size of which is 0.2 microns. Therefore, it is capable of filtering bacteria, protozoa, cysts, algae, spores, sediments and viruses in combination with particles greater than 0.2 microns. It also reduces radioactive particles. Please note that if you are filtering water from a source which you are concerned may contain viruses, it's necessary to use a secondary method of purification.
