Skills for the Wild
The aim of the Junior Expedition Skills course is for budding young Bushcrafters to take their skills and knowledge further, giving them the tools to be competent and confident in the great outdoors.Designed for 14-17 year-olds and building on the foundations laid in the Junior Fundamental Bushcraft course, this is a challenging but fun week. Completing this course provides the freedom and independence for young outdoorsmen and women to find their way in the backwoods, keep themselves safe and get home again.
Skills taught on this course are essential for anyone seeking adventure in wild places, including comprehensive instruction in the following;
- Planning, preparation and safety
- Outdoor hazards
- Navigation
- First Aid
- Clothing and equipment
- Lightweight camping
- Water purification
- Advanced firelighting
- Expedition foods
- Campfire cooking
- Communicating and signalling
First Aid training will be provided by Fusion Medical Ltd, partners of our Woodlore First Aid course and the providers of First Aid training for our outdoor team.
This course would be excellent training for those involved in the Scouts, Cadets and those doing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
This course is conducted from an expedition style camp on an extensive estate in East Sussex, with students venturing out on a multi-day camping expedition. All meals in camp and on the trail will be provided, allowing each student the opportunity to do some backcountry cooking.
If you have special dietary requirements please contact the office. This course starts at 17:30 on Sunday and will finish at 16:00 on Friday.
