Exploring the Kalahari Basin
Drawing on his 40 years of tracking experience, Ray will teach you the fascinating and ancient art of locating and interpreting the tracks and traces left behind by wild creatures in stunning surroundings.
This special course will take you to one of the wildest corners of Africa and into the heart of the Kalahari basin. Our time will be spent in Erindi, a beautiful private game reserve in central Namibia, a place that offers the widest selection of species in the greatest numbers. Luxury lodge accommodation and freshly prepared local ingredients coupled with the wildlife present will make this unequalled expedition an unforgettable experience. During your stay, learning will be centered around deciphering the myriad of tracks left by countless wild beasts that roam freely across the bushland.
Woodlore will call upon its 20 years of experience in Africa to introduce you to basic safety and behaviour on foot, how to dress and how to deal with dangerous game. Each day we will depart on 4x4 game drives at dawn and dusk, and as much as possible we will leave the confines of the vehicle to explore further on foot. Natasha Britz, a conservation expert, who featured in Ray's recent Survival series, will join us with local guides in order to gain the best knowledge about the local area and wildlife.
Translated as, a place of water, Erindi is also a pioneer in conservation programs and eco-management models and contains many rare species. Some of the wildlife you may have the opportunity to see include:
- Leopard
- Lion
- Elephant
- Black AND White Rhino
- Cheetah
- Ostrich
- Giraffe
- Porcupine
- Eland
- Oryx
You will be staying at the lodge in Erindi from 9th - 19th October. You will need to book flights departing on the evening of Monday 8th October to arrive in time for the course and your flight will arrive in the UK early on Saturday 20th October. Recommended flight details will be sent in due course.
