Canoeing in the Ardeche 2008

The Path of the Paddle

Canoeing in the Ardeche The Ardeche is a perfect environment in which to learn to canoe. Spectacular limestone scenery provides the backdrop to the course. We are there in early to mid May to get the best of the water levels before it becomes very shallow in the heat of the summer.

We are based at the Pont d'Arc campsite, a little rough at the edges, but full of character and very hospitable. Of course we are right next to the spectacular and unique Pont d'Arc itself. After two preparatory days we make a three-day descent of the river to have maximum time in the gorge.

We will be giving you a robust introduction to flat and white water and how to expedition using the canoe. Our aim will be to make you an efficient and self-contained tandem canoeist.

Weather: we are early in that transition from Spring to Summer so days can be hot but nights are often cool. Thunderstorms or damp weather are not unusual but generally it is fine so bring the high factor sun cream!

The whole area is very special with Vallons Pont d'Arc providing so many delightful restaurants that we are spoilt for choice.
